At the 2005 Clan Sinclair Gathering, the clan's Medal of Service was awarded to CSAC Honorary President R. Malcolm "Mac" Sinclair, of Kingston Ontario.

This is the citation read on that occasion by the Rt. Hon. Malcolm Sinclair, 20th Earl of Caithness and Hereditary Chief of Clan Sinclair, at the medal presentation in Wick, Caithness, Scotland.

While it is true to say that Clan Sinclair Association (Canada) was founded by Dr. E.G. Sinclair and his wife Roselma of Norwood Ontario, the changes and energy brought about under the stewardship of his successor, R. Malcolm "Mac" Sinclair were substantial, positive, and set a new standard for Clan Sinclair Canada.

It was in 1982 that Mac assumed the Presidency and it was he who presided over the dramatic increase in membership from a base of approximately 20 families in 1982 to about 175 families in 1995 when he retired from active leadership in the Association. What was remarkable in this increase was not only the absolute numbers, but also the fact that the membership was now coast to coast.

In addition, Mac began to write, produce and distribute a quarterly Newsletter of superior editorial content; it was called Litir à Clann and he composed over 50 issues. The newsletters are still being published following Mac's lead under the name Roslin O Roslin.

There is no doubt that Clan Sinclair Canada would not have the thriving organization or history it does without the foresight and leadership of Mac Sinclair. That the Association is doing so well today is a tribute to the energetic and careful work of building the Association that was achieved by Mac in those early and crucial days.  We in Clan Sinclair Canada, and indeed Clan Sinclair worldwide, owe him a huge debt.
